Oviedo to Grado

Over 20 miles on our first day. We would pick a time to do this during the worst heatwave in decades. It was very hot but we both survived.

My guide book was a little confusing because we never found the place shown as the end of this stage. After we'd gone at least 2 miles farther than we should have, we stopped at a pilgrim hotel. It's actually a lot nicer than the standard albergue. We have a room with 2 sets of bunk beds. Pam and I have the top bunks and a couple of guys have the bottom beds. But there is a bathroom in the room. So we even got to take showers without sharing with 20 other pilgrims. In its way, it's quite luxurious, for only 15 euros.

It's been a gorgeous route with many mountain trails, rivers and creeks. I'm loving it in spite of the oppressive heat.
