After the monastery we continued on for a few more miles and finally reached today's destination. We ended up walking nearly 20 miles, although the guidebook implied it should only have been around 16. It seems to consistently understate the distance. I tend to believe the numbers from my GPS.
When we arrived we found the first albergue was already full. But we did get lucky and found a beautiful private room for only 13 euros a piece. August is vacation time for most of Europe so we have discovered that the Caminos are all much more crowded than other times of the year. We are trying to book ahead for tomorrow night in hopes of getting another private room. Most of the albergues are first come first serve so reservations are not possible. We are slower than a lot of the much younger walkers, so we risk finding them all full. So far we have been extremely lucky. But I'm not sure that luck will hold out. There is always the option of taking a taxi to a town off the route for the night, then taking it back in the morning. I hope we can get another nice room tomorrow.
